We are all prone at some point to feel low self-esteem when we feel like we are missing someone or something. Although others might see that we have skills to serve God and our society, we lose the focus for which we were created by our God.
In the book of Esther we can see an example in which God fulfilled His purpose in her life and the way in which she was a blessing to His people. When we read the story of Esther we see how her life made a 180 degree turn and from one day to the next she found herself in a new and unknown world with a group of young women that came from all over the empire. Suddenly she was surrounded by luxuries, cares, and attentions where her courage was measured by her physical appearance and beauty.
From her childhood she had lost her parents (Esther 2: 7) and we know that this has a big impact in the childhood of any human being, causing a series of emotional, psychological, and social traumas. However, she did not let herself be beaten down by the stereotypes and circumstances in which she grew up in. If Esther had allowed herself to be overcome by her past and had compared herself to the other girls, creating in herself a spirit of vanity and low self-esteem, she would not have saved the people; however God's favor was with Esther and she was able to overcome all obstacles.
Like Esther we are certain that God is also with us and as it says in 2 Corinthians 5:17: "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" No matter what has happened in your past, in Christ all things are made new. Lets open our hearts and He will be the one who defines us. God made us in His image and accepts us as we are with virtues and defects. We are children of God! He has given you unique abilities to face life and serve where He has put you. With the help of our Savior we can have a healthy self-esteem. When we compare ourselves with other people we are diminishing what God has given us and we lose sight of God's purpose for our lives.
We are God's masterpiece created in His image and chosen for His divine purpose. Ephesians 2:10: "For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
Heavenly Father, we thank you for your mercy, for your love, for your sacrifice on the cross, and for the forgiveness of our sins. I receive you in my heart as my only savior and I lay down my life for you to do your work. Transform me Lord Jesus, heal my wounds, in your mighty name I pray Jesus Christ, the one who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen.
